What I have learn to enrich my understanding on fractions
Fractions is something that is hard for me to understand. Fractions can be confusing at times because it is so much that goes along with fraction, if it was just adding and subtracting I would be ok. In class we created this fraction bars. The fraction bars helped enriched my understanding because I have a better visual outlook on fractions. When you have the fraction bars you can divide and use only the one you need and you can see like smaller pieces that would equal a whole.

The fraction bars also helped my understanding of fractions. It was nice to have a visual to go along with what we were learning. I also agree that adding and subtracting are easy, but multiplying gets a little more involved. A little practice and we will grasp a complete understanding of each process.
ReplyDeleteI see that I'm not the only person who has never had a great relationship with fractions. ;o) The fraction bars made the light bulb come on for me. I think that all elementary teachers who are introducing fractions to their students, or are introducing the operations of mixed numbers, should use them. It just makes sense! I believe to truly understand something you have to grasp the concept first!
